About Sierra Leone Police Children Advocacy for Relentless Embrasures

SLPCare has worked for over 3 years amongst the slums, barracks and East Central Kenema. Our beneficiaries are the poorest of the poor within the Sierra Leone Police Children, most live in illegal shelters beside the city’s and canals. Illiterate and lacking documentation, they work as rag pickers, idlers and in other parts of the informal economy: rickshaw drivers, fruit sellers, daily labourers etc. There is poor access to drinking water, with taps far apart and operating only 3 or 4 hours a day. No running water leads to poor sanitation and poor health. Open defecation is a commonplace.

The existence of a competent social work and wider social service workforce is a key pillar of social protection and child protection systems including effective prevention and response to violence, poverty, discrimination, social exclusion and a range of other systemic social and economic challenges for children and families and vulnerable adults in the Sierra Leone Police.
